Tea O'Clock - #Brew 6
I recently read an article about how humans are hardwired to be optimistic. The author calls it our innate bias. Last week after a long time a friend and I were making plans for a hypothetical trip in 2022. We both knew the probability is flimsy at best, but we just couldn’t help ourselves. Maybe we are all biased for our futures and that is what makes us who we are.
From the shelves:
It feels like the entire world is talking about Atomic Habits. And for once I can vouch for the hype. This book is gold and James Clear is a freaking genius. In the book, he tackles the age-old dilemma of how to start a good habit and let go of a bad one. He doesn’t get preachy but rather gives a good framework to create sticky habits. My favorite part of the book is where he calls the whole self-control thing a sham. He argues that no one can let go of a habit by sheer willpower. But what we can do instead is get rid of the distractions. And trust me it works, my Instagram usage has gone down to less than 10 mins per day.
From the kitchen:
We have been gorging down some glorious Banganapallis over the week. When you have four kgs of them lying around, you put them to good use in the kitchens too. I have two favorite mango recipes. The first is the mango salsa from Your Food lab which goes extremely well with peri-peri flavored nachos. The trick here is to throw in a couple of Jalapenos slices while you blitz them all together. The other one is a slightly tweaked version of The Saffron Trail’s Mango moar kuzhambu aka spiced mango yogurt curry. While one is sublime, the other smacks you in the face. I will leave you to guess which is which.
From the playlist:
My favorite podcast has season 2 now! 13 minutes to the moon unravels the story around NASA’s famed Apollo 11. There is drama, suspense, and history in equal measures. It tracks the mission from Kennedy’s speech to the final leg of the journey. You also discover interesting facts as you go along. Who knew that the brains behind Apollo’s on-board computer is a woman, one glorious Margaret Hamilton. But mind you the podcast is not a racing thriller, it is more of a slow burn stretching over 12 episodes. But if you don’t mind that you are in for a fun historical space ride. Also, did I tell you that the amazing background score is by Hans Zimmer.
It is a dreadful time to probably plan anything. But to quote a wise gentleman, “Remember that hope is a good thing, Red, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies”.
Stay safe everyone!
